BAC:
Bacterial artificial chromosome
Base pair (bp):
Two complementary nucleotides (adenine, thymine, guanine, or cytosine) in double-stranded DNA. A unit of measure of DNA sequence length.
Beneficence:
An ethical principle to do good in all actions.
Benign polymorphism:
A genetic variant for which different phenotypes are clinically normal, such as the ABO blood groups.
Benign variant:
An alteration of a gene or genome which does not appear to cause disease.
Bioinformatics:
The use of advanced computational technique to analyze and manage data. Often applied to genomic studies to analyze DNA sequence information and proteomic studies to predict protein sequence and structure. Also referred to as Informatics.
Birth defect:
Any abnormality present at birth which may or may not be due to a genetic cause.
